Products of Limnos
Limnos has a long culinary tradition — from traditional pasta and PDO cheeses to award-winning wines and its famous thyme honey. Discover the flavors that make the island one of a kind.
Flomaria
A type of pasta cut into thin strips that resemble matchsticks. It's traditionally made from flour, milk, and eggs.
Melichloro
A fresh cheese made from sheep's milk. After preparation, it's placed in an airy, shaded spot to drain, then rinsed in seawater.
Kalathaki
A fresh cheese made from sheep's or goat's milk, preserved in brine. Its name comes from the shape it takes when set in a woven basket to curdle — a PDO product.
Wines
The island mainly grows two grape varieties: Moschato Alexandrias (white) and Limnio, also known as Kalambaki (red). Local wineries produce well-known, award-winning wines.
Venizelika
A sweet made with almonds and a vanilla glaze, first made by the island's housewives to welcome Eleftherios Venizelos when he visited Limnos after its liberation.
Thyme Honey
Unique in taste, thick, with a lovely aroma — one of the finest honeys in Greece.
Samsades
A sweet made with thin pastry sheets, sesame seeds, and honey — similar to baklava.
